Election campaign kicks off with visit from Harriet Harman
THE election campaign rolled into action on Saturday when the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Harriet Harman MP, came to Swindon.
After visiting residents in Stratton, the Shadow Secretary for Culture, Media and Sport spoke to shoppers in the town centre.
She was in Swindon to help launch Labour’s CostofCameron Campaign, highlighting what the party says has been the cost to people of the coalition government.
“It was good to speak to people many of whom have said they are struggling with the cost of living,” said Mrs Harman.
“I spoke with a woman who was heading to the bank needing three times more in her account than she actually had.
“I think a lot of people are fed up with this government and are looking to Labour to see if they have the solution.”
Mrs Harman also added her voice to calls for the Mayor Nick Martin to resign following alleged comments he made about the disabled.
She said: “I think people look towards the mayor as a representative of the town. It is not acceptable for him to make his remarks and continue so he must step down. ”
