Planning for Corsham’s major spring and summer events is well under way.

The Charity Sci-Fi group has confirmed its family fun day will take place on April 26 at Corsham School.

Chairman Adrian Davies said: “We can’t confirm all the guests yet, but we have some pretty serious people coming up, which would be a bit of a coup for us.

“Doctor Who storyboard artist Mark Collins will be here again. He has agreed to be our president, to replace Richard LeParmentier who died last year.”

At the town hall, plans are also coming together for the summer fete and Armed Forces Day celebration, which is on July 5, a week after Armed Forces Day.

Sharon Thomas, town council community and information officer, said: “We’ll be having our big summer fete on the same day, so we didn’t want it to clash with other events elsewhere.

“It will be back at the Springfield Rec, and should be a really good event.

“The last time we did it there was for the jubilee fete, which was a really successful day, and we’re really looking forward to it.”

The event will also see the launch of the town’s First World War centenary commemorations, including a recreation practice trench set up at The Batters, and the re-enactment of the Red Cross hospital which was at the town call during the war.

The council is welcoming any ideas for further commemorative events. To help, call (01249) 702130.
