Aldbourne Band is marching all the way to the top after coming first in the South West Brass Band Association’s annual championships.

The prizes for the band did not stop there, with cornet player Richard Hughes scooping best soloist for his contribution to the Year of The Dragon by Philip Sparke.

Members are now rehearsing for the area championships on March 25 in Torquay which could take them through to the national finals at the Royal Albert Hall.

Band chairman James Sheppard said: “These marvellous results shows what a consistently good standard the band has achieved.”

The band’s next concert is at the Immanuel Church in Swindon on January 25 at 7.30pm. Tickets from Aldbourne Post Office, Alan Watson on (01672) 540580 or on the door.
