DRIVERS in Swindon face a week of delays starting this morning as a number of major roadworks get under way around the town.

Developers at Regent Circus are beginning work to make the surrounding area more pedestrian friendly which could last until the summer.

It will affect drivers who are aiming to get onto Crombey Street, especially from Commercial Road, as that section of the road will be closed for at least a month throughout the construction.

On top of that, Thames Water are carrying out sewer upgrades across Swindon. On Monday they are due to start work on Wootton Bassett Road with commuters being warned to take extra time when using the road.

As well as that one lane of Rodbourne Road continues to be closed as part of a long term plan to increase the capacity of the sewer works at Barnfield.

And Westrop, in Highworth, will be closed for five days whilst the water company carry out works to connect pipes to the new houses.

Police have advised that drivers should use the A361 Lechlade or St Michael’s Avenue if they need to access Grove Hill.
