A FORMER Swindon Town player is planning to show a different kind of fancy footwork when he attends a fundraising concert for Prospect Hospice, showcasing the talents of Britain’s premier Bee Gees tribute act.

Phil King, whose career at the highest level of English football was bookended by two spells at the County Ground in the 80s and 90s, has booked two tables at the club’s Legends Lounge for a night of music from an even earlier time.

These days more likely to be found pulling pints at The Dolphin pub in Rodbourne, which he runs, Phil and many of his friends and family will be strutting their funky stuff at the event which sees a return to Swindon for Stayin’ Alive, who performed at a fundraising concert for the local hospice in the autumn.

Phil said: “I think it will be a great night. Like everyone else, I like a bit of disco music, and it always fills the dance floor. I decided to ask along friends and family, and I am sure we’ll have a night to remember.”

The former footballer, who retired from the game in 2006 and has worked for the club’s hospitality over the last six years, is no stranger to fundraising for Prospect Hospice, having organised a match of legends as part of the appeal that raised £250,000 to launch the Prospect@Home service in 2007.

The event has been organised by husband and wife team Steve and Natalie Hearn, who brought the act to the Rodbourne Club in October last year. On that night, the event raised £2,100 for the hospice.

Tickets are on sale now and cost £10 in advance or £15 on door. Contact Natalie on 07796137770.
