Award-winning Devizes butcher and delicatessen Walter Rose and Son has acquired another national accolade.

It has won a commendation in a major competition that attracted 300 entries from all over the country.

The Farm Shop & Deli Awards, run in partnership with Olives Et Al, recognise the very best standards in speciality retail and celebrate the highest levels of service, product knowledge, initiative, innovation and community involvement.

The awards celebrate the unsung heroes of the high street and speciality retail scene with categories ranging from butchers, bakers, farm shops and delis through to garden centres, food halls and online businesses.

Walter Rose and Son won a commendation in the butchery category and partner Steve Cook said that it was a great way to kick off the year.

He said: “We had a great year in 2013, winning the Butcher’s Shop of the Year Award for the whole of the South of England and being voted the best Butcher’s Shop in the South West in the Taste of the West Awards.

“Now, at the beginning of a new year, we’ve managed to gain the runner-up slot in this massive national competition – it’s brilliant and we’re very proud.”

Judge Neil Nugent, executive chef and head of product development at Morrisons, said: “The awards are a brilliant opportunity for the UK’s small independent businesses like Walter Rose and Son to get recognition nationally and to help enable them to become a destination.”
