A motorcycle convoy will be passing through Trowbridge supporting a campaign to end violence against women on Friday, February 14.

Domestic abuse charity Splitz, based at the White Horse Business Park, is organising Trowbridge’s events as part of One Billion Rising’s international day of action.

Last year, people from 207 countries took part.

Fran Lewis, founder of Splitz, wants festivities in Trowbridge to be as loud as possible and has organised for a procession of motorbikes to pass through the town. The group will be meeting at the White Horse Business Park at 1.20pm and then travelling through the town to Trow-bridge Park for 2pm.

When they arrive, the group will sing Break the Chain, One Billion Rising’s anthem, with Mrs Lewis hoping as many people as possible will attend to support the cause.

Mrs Lewis, Splitz executive director, said: “I think Splitz is a vital part of the existing infrastructure working to end domestic violence, so I thought let’s make a noise. I want men, women and children to take part and shake the earth.

“If people have a road worthy motorbike, are insured, have a helmet and a good heart, then come down and join us.”

Splitz, which celebrates its 25th anniversary later this year, was given an Investors in People Gold award earlier this month, praising the work the organisation does to support its staff and in particular the efforts Mrs Lewis makes.

Paul Shotton, Splitz trust-ees chairman, said: “This has been stunning news, and makes me very proud of Splitz. The charity is entirely about people, with staff and volunteers working very hard to help those who turn to us be the best they possibly can.

“Fran is both inspiring and original and, as Splitz has grown, she has gathered a magnificent team of managers who are very good at looking after their teams.”
