Young Melksham groom-to-be Mav Drewett is already in his prospective father-in-law’s good books, after winning the entire cost of his forthcoming wedding to fiancée Fran Nolan.

The couple, who live on Blenheim Park, Bowerhill, are frantically making plans after they won a dream £10,000 wedding at Swindon’s Brunel shopping centre earlier this month.

Mr Drewett, a 22-year-old taxi driver met Miss Nolan, who works at ASDA, when she was bridesmaid at his sister’s wedding last year. He proposed to her on Christmas Day, after asking permission from her father.

He said: “My family are all really excited to have another wedding coming up so soon.

“When we discussed the wedding, Fran had a list of things that she wanted and it was longer than my arm. Thankfully 90 per cent of those things are included in our prize.

“Now everything’s been paid for apart from the church and the rings, which certainly made my father-in-law smile.”

The couple won the prize at a Mr and Mrs-style contest at the centre, where they were tested on how compatible they were.

Mr Drewett said: “We had to write 100 words on why we deserved to win, which didn’t take us very long.

“On the Saturday we went there they had a competition with multiple choice questions, then they moved to the studio where you had to describe famous couples to your partner in the other room to see how in-tune you were.

“We’re looking to buy our current house now, so this has really helped.

“It’s going to be a stressful time ahead, but we can’t wait for the day itself.”

The couple will tie the knot before family and friends in a civil ceremony on September 21 at DeVere Village Hotel in Swindon which was one of the competition’s sponsors.
