New management has taken over the running of Charlie’s Bar in Market Place, Westbury, with the intention of making it a music venue.

Managers Karen Mariette and Laura Norris, who took over the bar on January 9, plan to hold weekly gigs at the venue, which was previously a sports bar.

As well as holding weekend gigs, the two friends will put on disco nights every Friday, and DJ Martin has performed at the venue for the past couple weeks.

Mrs Mariette, who was working at Charlie’s when it was a sports bar, said: “We both love music and we decided that it would be the way forward. We want to have live music every Saturday.

“So far we have had established bands, but we would also have slots available for up and coming artists.

“I am also in the process of booking a few tribute bands as well.

“There are some pubs in the town that have live music occasionally, but as we are both into music we thought that there is a niche for a proper music venue. It’s a new venture for the both of us, although we do have experience working behind bars before.

“The gigs we have had so far have gone down really well and there’s been a lot of interest.

“We are really excited about what’s to come and we have had lots of good feedback. We just want to create a friendly atmosphere where people can enjoy good music.”
