RESIDENTS suffering with memory loss can now head along to a new support group at the Wyvern Theatre.

The new Memory Café, provided by the Alzheimer’s Society, will give those with dementia and their carers the chance to socialise and get face-to-face support.

There will also be regular talks from professionals and representative in the community.

Rosemarie Thompson, a dementia support worker for Alzheimer’s Society in Swindon and Wiltshire, said: “Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory cafes can really help improve people’s quality of life. They give people with the condition and their carers the opportunity to socialise with others in similar situations and receive vital support.

“They’re also a great source of information and guidance which can help people to live well with the condition. There are more than 6,300 people with this condition Iiving in Wiltshire and this will rise, but with the right support people can live well with the condition for a number of years.”

The new café will be opened by the MP for South Swindon, Robert Buckland, on February 13 and from then on it will run every second Thursday each month from 10.30am to 12.30pm in the theatre’s café.

Robert said: “I’m delighted to support the new Memory Cafe at the Wyvern Theatre, and honoured to have been invited to take part in the launch.”

As well as Dementia Café’s, Alzheimer’s Society in Wiltshire runs a number of services including Singing For The Brain.
