A TEENAGER who was accused of robbing another boy at gunpoint has had the charges against him dropped by the prosecution.

Michael Cook was due to stand trial next month in connection with the mugging in Oakhurst last summer.

But after his defence team proved the 18-year-old’ s mobile phone was more than three miles away at the time of the incident the Crown offered no evidence.

Chris Jervis, prosecuting, said the analysis of the handset clinched the decision not to proceed.

He said Cook was currently serving a prison sentence imposed by the youth court in September for other robberies.

Judge Tim Mousley QC entered formal not guilty verdicts but told Cook he must complete his sentence.

Rob Ross, defending, said the decision meant his client, who received a one year detention and training order, could be considered for release later in the month.

Cook, of Frampton Close, Eastleaze, had denied robbery and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
