CHILDREN and their parents visited the library in Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday with their soft toys in a special celebration of National Libraries Day.

Around 20 children turned up to the library in Boroughfields with their teddies for the special event for children aged seven and under.

The youngsters listened to story and rhyme time with their teddies, and also had a chance to get a health check for their toys.

They also had a go at making a healthy meal for their teddy from paper cut-outs of food.

Carolyn Kennedy, community librarian, said: “All the children brought their teddies along and enjoyed reading with their teddy and giving them a health check. All were given a full bill of health and they all enjoyed a healthy meal made for them by their owners.

“It was all about celebrating National Libraries Day and encouraging reading and learning.

“We even had a stethoscope for the health check.”

National Libraries Day was celebrated in libraries around the country and rounded off a week of celebrations in schools, colleges, universities, work places and public libraries.

In Royal Wootton Bassett, residents also celebrated the day with a Poetry Out Loud event, which saw people come along to the library in Boroughfields and read out their favourite poems.
