School lunchtimes have traditionally been spent playing football or marbles, but pupils at a Corsham Primary School have taken things into the 21st century by programming their very own robot.
The team of eight Year 6 pupils at St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School spent their lunchtimes working on their creation using the Lego Mindstorms system, as part of the national First Lego Leagues competition.
After triumphing at the regional finals in Bristol in November, the school’s ‘Legends of Lego’ team travelled to Loughborough University on Saturday, February 1, for the national contest.
The team has been coached by Year 6 teacher Aaron Laws. He said: “There were 30 teams in the final, from about 420 who originally entered.
“We came fourth overall, which made us the highest-scoring primary school in the county.”
They also scooped a Team Spirit Award, in recognition of their enthusiasm, dedication and teamwork on the day.
