A PCSO in Swindon was in the right place at the right time last night as he disturbed burglars attempting to break into a local shop.

PCSO Alex Pawlowski was on patrol in the Lawn area of Swindon shortly before 11pm when he disturbed three people who were believed to have been attempting to break into the One Stop Shop on Guildford Avenue.

The men ran from the scene and after being joined by response officers and a dog handler a 29-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of burglary. He currently remains in custody at Gablecross Police Station.

Insp Joe Saunders from the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We patrol all areas, and specifically where the community raise issues with us. Alex has come across a crime occurring and has fortunately been able to prevent the break in. The response from other colleagues is also worthy of note and I appeal for anyone with information about this crime to contact us.”

A number of people have already come forward with information but anyone else who either witnessed the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time is asked to contact David Miller in the Local Crime Team at Swindon or the East Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101. Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
