Childhood friends Catherine Brown and Jade Deverill hope to raise £500 for Cancer Research UK through a cake sale in Heddington Village Hall this weekend.
The cake sale, on Saturday, is the first fundraiser the pair plan to organise this year after seeing the effect of cancer first-hand in their own families.
Miss Brown’s dad Peter is recovering after being diagnosed with bladder cancer last December and Miss Deverill lost her mum Jen to cancer last September.
Visitors to the sale can buy hand-made jewellery and bags, as well as wooden plaques and cards from Phoenix Cards. There will be nail painting and children can enjoy a colouring contest, face painting and temporary tattoos.
Raffle prizes will include a free MOT from Auto-Tech, as well as vouchers from G&S Jewellers, Whitehall Garden Centre and Calne hair salon Guys and Dolls.
Miss Brown, 25, from Heddington, said: “We decided that this year we would raise as much money as we could for Cancer Research.
“We were going to do a small cake sale and it has turned into a big event with 12 tables booked. We’ve had great support from businesses, friends and family.
“We’re both looking forward to doing this together as we’ve been through a lot.”
The sale is from 2pm to 5pm. Visit www.justgiving .com/batchesagainst cancer
