Codford Local History Society has updated the programme of events for its Wylye Valley 1914 Project, which includes a range of activities and events throughout June and July.

The project, which has been organised as part of the First World War centenary commemorations, will include talks on the impact of the war on the area, plus a performance by Wylye Valley Primary School.

The main event will take place over the weekend of July 26-27, with living history re-enactments by the Great War Society and Yeomanry on the village field and an exhibition at Codford Village Hall.

General Sir Roger Wheeler, a retired British Army officer, will be officially opening the commemorative weekend of events on July 26, with MP Andrew Murrison also due to attend.

Group member Alex Saunt said: “The project is really coming along and all the preparations are going well. We are seeing a lot of involvement from the schools, as well as local scouts and guide groups.

“We are also encouraging people to come along in clothing appropriate to 1914 for the main weekend. It is by no means compulsory, but anyone is welcome to dress up.”
