Town councillors are encouraging sports clubs in Devizes to apply for money provided by housing developers.
The money is given to Wiltshire Council when Section 106 legal agreements for planning applications are agreed.
Devizes Town Council was asked to consider a Devizes Rugby Club request for funding towards improvements to the grounds and floodlights from this money.
But the council’s community and civic resources committee was concerned that other sports groups could miss out as the rugby club’s application is for the majority of the £68,000 set aside for recreational funding.
The committee agreed that it would support a partial grant to the rugby club and encouraged others to apply.
