Joe Brown to headline Village Pump Folk Festival
The line-up for this year’s Village Pump Folk Festival has been announced with organisers delighted to have artists to suit all musical tastes.
Joe Brown, The Blues Band, Seth Lakeman, Steve Knightley and Brass Monkey are among some of the acts performing at the event taking place at the White Horse Country Park, in Westbury, between July 25 and 27.
The festival, which first launched in 1974, attracted 2,000 from all over the world last year and John Alderslade, festival director, thinks more will attend this summer.
He said: “The line-up is really good and there’s something for everybody who enjoys music with no sideshows which you can get at some festivals.
“When you put the festival together, you look at who you wish you’d had last year, the ones you want back from last year and then make sure you’ve got a good balance.
"There’s also an awful lot of luck involved in drawing up the bill, but we are really happy with the mix of artists we have.”
The folk festival will also welcome back Radio 2 Folk Award winners Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin who scooped best duo at the ceremony which took place at The Royal Albert Hall, in London, last month.
Many up-and-coming artists who perform at the Village Pump’s Friday Night Folk Club, at The Lamb, in Mortimer Street, Trowbridge will be performing over the weekend.
Mr Alderslade said: “The Friday night events are all part of the festival vibe.
“They attract people who are there solely for the music and those are the kind of people we like to welcome to the festival.”
Since 2012, the festival has been held at the White Horse Country Park, under the gaze of Westbury White Horse.
It previously took place at Stowford Manor Farm.
Mr Alderslade said: “It was a real leap of faith when we went there, but they’ve been absolutely great to us and we like to think we benefit the community.
“There’s a fantastic atmosphere on site and the White Horse overlooking the grounds is rather iconic.”
The event has a team of about 30 people who organise festivities with many volunteers and stewards giving their time to help over the weekend.
The festival is looking for more volunteers to help this year.
