Chittoe B&B owner Ginny Scrope was thrilled to find out that she had won a gold award in an international marmalade competition.

Her Seville orange marmalade, made in her kitchen at Glebe House, was among hundreds of entries in the World’s Original Marmalade Awards at Dalemain House, Cumbria, last weekend.

She said: “I had a call on Monday to say I had won a gold medal. I couldn’t believe it. I have been making marmalade for years but I only got round to entering the contest this year.

"I entered several of my marmalades including a savoury one made with red onions but never imagined I was going to win.

“I serve up marmalade to my guests at breakfast and it always goes down well with them, but to win a gold award in a national competition is a real thrill.”

Mrs Scrope believes in the importance of locally sourced food and tries to make Glebe House as sustainable as possible. She said: “Obviously I can’t grow my own oranges, but I get them from the local V&P Collins farm shop.”
