A BRAND ambassador for Jaguar was caught by police doing 90mph in a ‘Supercharged’ XJL model he had promoted for the car giant.

Sanjay Anand, 50, was stopped by officers after breaking the 70mph speed limit on the M4.

Anand pleaded guilty to the offence at court on Tuesday and was given three penalty points and ordered to pay an £80 fixed penalty, a £20 victim surcharge and £65 costs.

Anand, from Norwood Green, Southall, changed his plea from not guilty after the charge was reduced from an unspecified speed above 90mph. He had been clocked in the powerful saloon car on June 16 last year between junctions 15 and 16 near Swindon.

Prosecutor Keith Ballinger said: “PC Moorhouse on the date sees the vehicle in his opinion exceed the speed limit on the M4, clocked using the latest device. As you hear the defendant accepts he’s travelling at 90mph at the time. He’s stopped, spoken to and reported for that offence.”

Ashley Barnes, Anand’s barrister, said the offence would “ordinarily have produced a fixed penalty”. Speaking outside Swindon Magistrates’ Court, Anand described the fine as “just one of those things” and said he intended to continue in his role as a brand ambassador.

Anand, who has an MBE for services to hospitality, took up the role in 2011, describing the XJL as “fast, beautiful and quite simply the most luxurious vehicle on the road”.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is the latest ambassador for the car giant and is due to be presented with the first UK-registered F-Type Coupe this month. Jaguar did not respond to requests for comment.
