A musical jam session, organised by drummer Simon Hanson, has raised £1,400 for the Naomi House Children’s Hospice in memory of 11-year-old Jade Randall.

Jade, a pupil at St Nicholas School, Chippenham, died at Naomi House in 2012, after battling several genetic disorders during her lifetime.

The hospice, which offers respite and palliative care for young people with life-limiting conditions, began caring for Jade when she was six months old.

Last Sunday’s jam at the Wheatsheaf Inn, Calne, was packed with supporters who helped to raise £350 through raffle tickets alone.

Mr Hanson, 33, of Braemor Road, is a friend of Jade’s parents, Nikki and Lee Brown.

He said: “The pub was full pretty much. We probably had a couple of hundred people. All the kids got involved, they were dancing and playing on the instruments.

“Everyone was really generous and helped out. We are absolutely thrilled and Jade’s parents are massively touched by it. We would like to thank everyone, all the businesses that helped out and everyone who played.”

Singer-songwriters Benji Clements and Brian Mitchell performed, as did guitarist Mason O’Brian, 13, and tribute band Strictly Dan.

Pub landlords Mark and Maris Shurmer asked their supplier, Red Oak Taverns, for a free keg of beer and were given two.

Manager Mandy McCloud said: “Everyone worked really hard. The customers made it a fabulous day.”
