Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision near Calne yesterday morning.

The accident was one of a number reported across Wiltshire in the foggy conditions and police were again advising motorists today to ensure they drove appropriately in foggy conditions with headlights in use.

Police, fire and ambulance attended a serious road traffic collision between a lorry and a car on the A3102 at Mile Elm, between Silver Street, Calne, and Sandy Lane after the collision just before 9.45am yesterday.

The occupant of the car, who police say was a Wiltshire woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are currently reaching her next of kin.

Officers believe that her Ford Fiesta was being driven southbound along the A3102 when it was in collision with a white 7.5-tonne Iveco goods vehicle that was travelling in the opposite direction.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who witnessed the collision or have any information that they feel may assist.

In particular, police wish to speak to the driver of a van who had been travelling north and arrived at the scene after the collision but left before the arrival of the emergency services.

Police are urging the driver to get in touch as they may have vital information that would assist the investigation.

If you have any information that may assist police please call 101 or alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously.
