STRATTON’s Air Cadets are the keepers of a unique art work created by artist David Bent for last year’s Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT).
The 2003 (Stratton) Squadron, based in Taylor Crescent, was one of 595 groups and individuals from across the world who asked to keep the artwork, which features more than 350 signatures and patches from people who participated in RIAT 2013, including members of the RAF Red Arrows, 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron, and the Chinook Display Team.
Kevin Head, flight lieutenant of the stratton squadron, said: “We were absolutely delighted to receive it. We are expecting to move premises soon and it will take pride of place in the new building.”
The artwork, which was framed by Chromatic Arts and commissioned by RIAT, was put together by David Bent after his wife Carole suggested collating the signatures for the purpose.
Helen Webb, Deputy Director Marketing for the Air Tattoo, said that they had chosen the Air Cadets to be the owners in recognition of their hard work.
She said: “We were staggered to receive so many requests.”
“We wanted it to go to a good Wiltshire home, close to the home of RIAT.”
