People around Devizes who fancy a shot at ploughing will get their chance in Rowde this weekend.

The annual ploughing match takes place at Manor Farm in Close Lane, but organiser Jim Butler said it would have a slightly different format this year.

He said: “The main ploughing match will take place on Sunday, with contestants coming from all over the county. But we thought we’d make it a bit different on the Saturday.

“There will be the usual practice ploughing session, but we will give people the chance to try their hand at it. I’ve heard a lot of people say they’d like to see what it is like and now they’ve got their opportunity.”

There will be lots to enjoy on Saturday, from an exhibition of traction engines and vintage steam engines, lorries, cars and motor bikes to a bar and a hog roast.

All proceeds will go to Dorothy House Hospice Care.

The event runs from 9am to 1pm on both days. Entry is free.
