A local man has been arrested following the recent spate of racist graffiti in Penhill.

After yesterday’s appeal for information about swastika graffiti that appeared in the area overnight on Monday into Tuesday, a 28-year-old man from Swindon was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of criminal damage.

He was arrested in connection with a total of 12 incidents in north and west Swindon, including a number that were reported earlier in the year, and remains in custody at Swindon Gablecross police station.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to thank the media for their help with this appeal.”

At this stage there is still no evidence to link these incidents to those reported in Walcott over the weekend and police are still appealing for witnesses to those incidents.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
