Residents of Rotherstone and Avon Terrace have been unimpressed with plans to reduce the amount of traffic going past their front doors, town councillors heard last week.
Devizes Town Council’s planning committee was shown four options to address the notorious rat run, used by motorists trying to avoid tailbacks on Bath Road and New Park Street.
One was the closure of Rotherstone at Devizes Cemetery, with no through road signs being put up at the Bath Road end. The second was to prohibit all motor vehicles except for access.
Option three is for one-way traffic between the cemetery gates and Dyehouse Lane, while option four involves traffic calming measures along both roads.
Coun Peter Evans said the Community Area Transport Group had spoken to residents to find out their preferences, with mixed success.
The options will be put to residents and the responses will be forwarded to Wiltshire Council.
