Dog walkers in the Kennet Vale and Marlborough area are being asked to sign up for a Sunday morning fundraiser for their local hospice.

Prospect Hospice’s Sunday Walkies will see owners and their canines gather at Marlborough Cricket Club on May 18 for a five-mile sponsored walk in countryside surrounding the town.

The event has been added to the Wroughton charity’s fundraising 2014 calendar.

Organiser Genevieve Arney said: “We have introduced Sunday Walkies because we wanted a fund- raising event based in Marlborough to replace the Night Hike we have staged there in recent years.

“It’s no secret that there are lots of dog lovers in the Marlborough area and we hope they will come out in force for a great Sunday morning dog walk next month.”

Among dog owners who have already signed up is Emma Deck of Pewsey, who will be accompanying her Jack Russell terrier, Myrtle.

She said: “Prospect Hospice is a good local charity, which I have been happy to support in the past and this looked like a really fun event to take part in.

“Myrtle is very energetic, so we will both enjoy a five-mile walk on a Sunday morning.”
