A variety of cars, old and new, gave a taste of track action to drivers for a good cause.

The charity track day at Castle Combe Circuit on April 2 raised £3,200 for The Forever Friends appeal at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

The track day gave drivers the opportunity to experience speed in their own cars, in a controlled environment, at one of the longest established and famous motor circuits in the UK.

Cars which were driven ranged from a Ford GT40 replica and Maserati Ghibli to Mazda MX5, BMW M3 and Porsche 911.

And there were classic cars including a Ford Escort RS2000, modified MG Midgets and a rapid Morris Minor.

Passenger rides were also popular for those wanting the chance to ride in a car of their dreams, in exchange for a donation to the charity.

Maria Fisher, of Castle Combe Circuit, said: “When Christopher Darwin (track day organiser) asked me to choose a local charity I was only too pleased to help the Forever Friends Appeal at the RUH as my way of saying thank you for the care I have received from the Lung Cancer Department in 2013.

"Both the consultants and nurses were so supportive.

"The total raised on the day was absolutely brilliant!”

The fundraising will be split between the RUH Cancer Care Campaign and the children’s ward.

Laura Pearce, events fundraiser for The Forever Friends Appeal, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Castle Combe Circuit chose to support the appeal for two very important areas of the Royal United Hospital.

"As a hospital serving over 500,000 people across Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire and even further afield, supporting the RUH is a local cause that touches the hearts of so many – including motor-enthusiasts.

"This day was the ride of a lifetime for many, with plenty of seasoned circuit drivers and beginners getting some on track experience.

"We hope all of the drivers and passengers thoroughly enjoyed their day on this world-class track– thank you Castle Combe Circuit!”
