Calne town councillor Howard Marshall was voted in as deputy mayor for 2014/15 on Monday.
He will join serve alongside the town’s next mayor Heather Canfer, who takes over from Mercy Baggs on May 12.
He was proposed as deputy mayor by Ms Canfer. Coun Tom Rounds was also proposed as deputy mayor by Conservative councillor Charles Boase.
Mr Marshall, a Liberal Democrat and a Wiltshire councillor, is part of the Calne Bike Committee and is working with youngsters in the town on the Calne Bowl Project for a new skate park.
Eleven town councillors voted for him to become deputy mayor and six voted for Mr Rounds to take the position.
Ms Canfer, also a Liberal Democrat, said: “He’s a pretty experienced councillor with a wide knowledge of all of our committees and working groups. We need a councillor of this competence.”
