A CINEMA experience at The Open Door Centre, in Gorse Hill, has been made possible after the donation of an entertainment bundle worth £500 from HJ Webb and Son.

The building, timber and fencing specialist received cash from Tesco as a part of a deal to allow the supermarket use of its land at Southdown Farm for a promotional hot air balloon.

Rather than passing the money on in a cash donation to a charity, the firm contacted North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson, who suggested The Open Door Centre.

The charity had been saving for a new television, a Nintendo Wii and games for some time, but HJ Webb was able to make their goal a reality in one fell swoop.

Craig Hiscock, the senior support worker at Open Door, said: “We weren’t expecting a TV of that size, because they cost so much money and we knew they had a budget of £500.

“It’s going to have a big impact because we wanted it for several reasons. “The members really like to watch films and they wanted to do something in the evenings.

“They will now be able to come here, learn skills in the kitchen with making hot dogs and popcorn, as well as social skills with meeting friends for a film.”

Tom Fullalove, the sales manager at HJ Webb, said: “We wanted to use the money to put something back into the community. This is a great cause and we are delighted to help.”
