After months of searching and an appeal in the Wiltshire Times, Trowbridge charity Alzheimer’s Support has finally found a new home for its day club in the town.

The club, which has met at Polebarn Gardens since 1994, will move to larger, brighter premises in Mill Street next month.

The new club will have space for 10 members, three members of staff plus volunteer helpers and will be run by Grant Newton, who has managed the charity’s award-winning Sidmouth Street Club in Devizes for nearly five years.

He now has responsibility for both clubs, supported by deputy managers Jill Mitchener in Trow-bridge and Carol Gazzard in Devizes. The Devizes club will also achieve its long-held ambition to open four days a week.

Chief executive Anna Littlechild said: “We searched high and low for the right premises and were so pleased when we finally found Mill Street.

“It is a wonderful space. We’d like to thank everyone in Trowbridge, including the Wiltshire Times, who helped.”

Mr Newton’s dementia therapy dogs Higby and Dave will also make the transition to Trowbridge, where they will spend two days each week.

Mr Newton said: “Alzheimer’s Support has won several awards for its day club in Devizes and we will now have the space and facilities to replicate this format in Trowbridge.”

The club opens later in May after refurbishment. For more about Alzheim-er’s Support, visit www. alzheimerswiltshire.org.uk
