Friends and colleagues of Kerry Palmer will hold a walk for Pancreatic Cancer Research, after she was diagnosed with the disease.

Mrs Palmer, 51, of Great Cheverell, near Devizes, got her diagnosis just before Christmas, while working at healthcare firm Medvivo in Chippenham.

She is having chemotherapy, but hopes to be at Calne Library for the start of the seven-mile walk to Bowood on May 10, at 10am.

Colleague Lesley Edwards, 51, of Ferozeshah Road, Devizes, said anyone could join the walk.

Medvivo staff have held several fundraising events, including an Easter challenge that raised more than £400 by letting people crack an egg on a manager’s head.

Mrs Edwards said: “We started doing some fundraising at work and decided to do something bigger.

“There have been a lot of colleagues that have been extremely upset about the diagnosis, as she’s a much-loved character. It’s something that has helped us through.”

Mrs Palmer’s husband, Andy, is head of geography at Dauntsey’s School and they have four children: Bethan, Sam, Lydia and Charlie.

She was previously an assistant practitioner providing rehabilitation to patients in Devizes and Marlborough.

She grew up in Cardiff and relatives from Wales will join the walk, which costs £5 and is suitable for all ages.

Mrs Edwards said: “If they can manage the seven miles it’s not steep hills.

“The funding that the Government puts into pancreatic research is poor. There’s a poor survival rate and my own father died in 2009.

“It’s palliative, she’s not going to recover, but the chemotherapy is to give her extra time with her family.”
