More than 1,000 fans are expected to flock to Twickenham tomorrow for the greatest sporting day in Trowbridge Rugby Club’s history.

Coach Steve Ojomoh’s team take on Leek in the RFU Intermediate Cup Final at 4pm.

The club, which also clinched promotion last Sunday, will have no shortage of backing. At least 12 coachloads will make the journey to London, with many more going by car.

Club president Mike James said: “It’s been a fairy tale. This is the furthest we have ever got and no other team from Trowbridge has ever got this far. It’s something for the lads to be so proud of, and for me it’s a dream come true

“I just want to say a big thank to everyone who’s been with us. Have a good day tomorrow, support the team, and hopefully we look forward to seeing everyone next season in the new league.”

Pubs across the area will empty for the day. Jay Parkinson, landlord of The Wiltshire Yeoman in Trowbridge, said: “A lot of us are planning to go down to the game. There’s a lot of excitement building. A lot of the guys go to the rugby club.”

Many fans will ride with Chandlers Coach Travel of Westbury. Margaret I’anson from the firm said: “We have been taking them for years. It has always been the team and the supporters on one coach, so you can tell they’re doing well to need so many for this. We wish them all the best of luck. It’s brilliant for the team.”
