A FORMER Great Western Hospital doctor has been struck off the medical register by a tribunal, 11 months year after being convicted of taking an indecent image of a child and voyeurism.

Dr Michael Chong Kee Lok, who had worked as a specialty registrar in the Emergency Department since 2004, was suspended on January 7, 2013 by the hospital.

The 50-year-old, from Kingswood, later admitted taking a photograph of a 15-year-old boy on his phone at Bath University Sports Village in November and December 2012. He also pleaded guilty to seven counts of voyeurism at Bristol Crown Court.

At a hearing of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, a panel decided to erase him from the register.

On Thursday, the panel had ruled his fitness to practice medicine had been impaired by his criminal conviction.

MPTS panel chairman Dr Bernard Herdan said: ”The behaviour for which you were convicted was very serious. In taking covert photographs of a naked child and a number of young men, without their knowledge and permission, you invaded their privacy and breached their dignity. This was wholly unacceptable and breaches a fundamental tenet of the profession.

“The Panel has found that the conduct for which you were convicted was, deplorable and would be considered to be so by members of the public. It has damaged the reputation of the profession and has undermined the trust that members of the public are entitled to have for the medical profession. The Panel has concluded that your conduct is not merely unacceptable; it is fundamentally incompatible with continued medical registration. It has therefore determined to erase your name from the medical register.”
