DEBRIS has been spotted in the Atlantic Ocean close to where the yacht Cheeki Rafiki disappeared.
At this stage it is not known whether the debris, a piece of wood and a plastic board, belong to the missing boat but the US Coastguard have been informed.
The coastguard will now speak with the boats owners to find out if it is from the Cheeki Rafiki.
The 40-foot yacht was making its way back to its base in Southampton when it disappeared, along with its four crew members.
Among the missing crew members is Steve Warren, whose uncle Albert Davey lives in Royal Wootton Bassett.
Yesterday, he told the Adver that the family was not giving up hope of finding his nephew alive.
He said: “We are all waiting very anxiously. We are satisfied everyone is doing their level best.”
The search for the crew was initially called off on Sunday but started up again on Tuesday. An RAF Hercules has joined in the search which has covered an area of 9,000 square miles.
