Teenage cancer survivor Florence Corr, originally from the Devizes area, is performing with her sister to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Florence, 17, and her sister, Eleanor, 21, are both accomplished musicians and want to give something back to the Teenage Cancer Trust, which supported Florence during her treatment.

Florence was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in May 2013 when she was 16 and underwent six months of chemotherapy. She was treated on Ward 35 at Bristol Children’s Hospital, a specialist ward for youngsters partly funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Florence said: “It’s a really amazing ward and it was a real privilege to be on there. I was very lucky, if I was a year and a half older I would have gone into the adult hospital. It’s a lot easier when you are on a ward with people your own age.”

Florence had to put her studies on hold while she underwent treatment. She was told she was in remission last December.

Florence and Eleanor’s musical careers began at the Super Strings Club in Market Lavington before they both won places at Wells Cathedral School. Florence will be starting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London in September while Eleanor is at the Royal Academy of Music.

Florence said: “I was very lucky. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is the most treatable cancer. It’s nice to know I can get back to normal.”

The concert is raising money for the region’s first dedicated unit for 16 to 24-year-olds with cancer. It would be at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre.

The concert features the London Chamber Soloists, an ensemble of award-winning musicians. Florence and Eleanor will perform the viola and violin solos.

The concert is at St George’s, Bristol, on June 19 at 7.30pm. Email info@londonchambersoloists.com or call 07708 289449.
