IT WAS all change at Croft Primary School when some lucky pupils enjoyed a role reversal with teachers just before they broke up for half-term.

The school’s 94 children entered a raffle, with the winners being able to take up one of four positions as either headteacher, teacher, receptionist or caretaker. The competition raised £118 which will help the school, in Hesketh Crescent, buy outdoor equipment.

Five-year-old Harry replaced Candida Hutchinson as headteacher; Charlie, five, became a teacher; Juah, five, took the position of receptionist and Fred, five, replaced Croft Primary School’s caretaker.

Candida said: “It was absolutely fabulous fun and we are really pleased to have raised so much for the school. “All four of them did very good jobs. Juah had to answer the phone and divert any calls to the headteacher. Harry had to attend a meeting and sign a letter being sent out to parents.

“Charlie took a maths lesson on shapes and Fred had to carry out maintenance at school.”

Harry introduced several rules which saw the children allowed to wear non-uniform, have milkshakes for lunch and force Candida to wear a Spider-Man t-shirt as part of her uniform.

She said: “Harry was also trying to get everyone to have McDonald’s for lunch but we felt that might be pushing our healthy eating. “This is the first time we’ve ever done anything like this but we might start it every week if it is as much fun as today.

“In all seriousness, we always try to end school in a memorable and fun way before we break up for holidays.”

Croft Primary School also enjoyed a visit from play leaders, based at Ridgeway Leisure Centre, yesterday, who held sports workshops with their Year 1 pupils.

The school’s next fundraising event is a fete at their grounds between 11.30am and 2.30pm on Saturday, July 5. Attractions will include dance performances, martial arts displays, face painting and stalls with funds being raised going into Croft Primary School’s pot to buy outdoor equipment.
