Free event helps Devizes Bowmen raise archery profile
Youngsters and adults tried their hand at archery at a free event on The Green in Devizes on Sunday.
As part of a national initiative by the sport’s governing body, Devizes Bowmen hosted the event to introduce people to the sport.
Children aged eight upwards used fibreglass bows to shoot at the target and there were squeals of delight when they successfully shot a balloon on the board.
Devizes Bowmen demonstrated three types of bows – the long bow, recurve and compound.
Member Mark Rudd, who shot for Team GB in the World Cup in Shanghai, was among those demonstrating their skills.
Group secretary Martin Page said: “We had a few hundred people come through and everyone who attended had a good experience.
"One of the main aims was to raise the profile of archery in general and get a few more members. It’s the first time we have run this type of event.
“There were a few people who didn’t realise there was a local club in Devizes. We have about 40 members of varying ages.”
