ORGANISERS of an inaugural family fun day for North Swindon are confident it will still build community relations even though plans have been scaled back.

Initial plans for a festival have been reduced due to time constraints, but organisers have stressed there will still be fun for all ages.

On top of that, plans are also underway to ensure that next year’s event will be much larger.

Kate Harding, secretary of the organising group, said: “When we looked at what was needed it became clear that there simply was not enough time to get everything in place.

“We therefore thought it best to do something smaller well, rather than keep going with something bigger that perhaps wouldn’t be what everyone wanted.

“It’s going to be a fantastic day and it will give us some experience for when we go bigger next year.”

The fun day will be held on September 6 at Brook Park in Redhouse. There will be a host of activities such as a hog roast and bouncy castles.

Kate said: “There will still be something for everyone so we hope people come down. The whole aim of the day is to try and bring the whole of North Swindon together.

“Asda will be providing assistance and the Wiltshire Air Ambulance are still the charity we are raising money for.

“It is an opportunity for people to have a get together and meet their neighbours. A lot of people now live in North Swindon but there aren’t too many opportunities for this. That is what we want to do.

“The only thing we can’t control is the rain but we will have marquees so if it does rain then hopefully people won’t get wet.”

Thoughts are already turning towards preparations for next year’s event as the organisers look to make it a festival to remember.

“This will give us good practice and show us what we need to do for next year,” said Kate.

“What we are after is people or businesses which can help us out.”
