The work of young artists in West Lavington will shortly go on show to the general public thanks to a grant from the Lottery.

Over the past few months West Lavington Youth Club has been working with local artist Mollie Gratland to make two installations for a major sculpture exhibition at West Lavington Manor this month.

Thanks to a grant from Awards4All, junior members have painted silk squares that have been made up into a panel to hang in the exhibition shop. This has the theme ‘moods of summers 1914-2014’.

Older club members have made ten painted silk banners, one for each decade from 1914 onwards.

Two of these banners include the names of people from around West and Market Lavington who died in the two world wars. The others take themes reflecting big events from times past.

The finished banners will be installed near the entrance to the exhibition.

Club treasurer Lyn Dyson said: “We are thrilled that our members have this opportunity to be involved in this wonderfully creative project.”
