Visitors to the Corsham home of Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason can sample the dark side of the macaroon later this month, when he opens his doors for a celebrity cake auction.

The rock star and his wife Annette will host an open garden weekend at Middlewick House, in aid of the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust and Chippenham’s Springboard Opportunity Group.

As well as the chance to look round the 18th-century estate, which the Masons purchased from the Duchess of Cornwall in 1995, a host of celebrities have agreed to donate cakes to a silent auction.

Jennie Shaw is a director of the Bobby Van Trust, which provides a home security service to elderly and vulnerable people across Wiltshire. It benefited from an open gardens event the Masons hosted last year, attended by the Duchess.

Mrs Shaw said: “The idea came from Nick. We did an open garden event last year, and wanted to think of something a little different.

“He is a very good cook and happened to be serving us biscuits, when I thought we could have a celebrity cake auction. He said he could ask Paul – when he said Paul Hollywood I knew it could work.

“We went to an air show a couple of weeks ago that Nick was organising, and sitting in a marquee were various celebrities. We went round and without exception they all said yes.”

Stars contributing cakes include Richard E Grant, Willie Carson, Richard Hammond, Gary Kemp and Christine Hamilton, as well as the Great British Bake Off host Mr Hollywood.

The gardens will be open from 11.30am-4.30pm on June 21 and 22, with tickets at £5.
