A charity that provides an out-of-hours courier service to hospitals in west Wiltshire is celebrating being Bradford on Avon Sainsbury’s most successful charity of the year after raising £11,250.

Freewheelers transport blood, medicines, patients’ notes and samples, free of charge to hospitals in West Wiltshire, Somerset, Bath, Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

The charity has six BMW motorbikes, with three on duty at any one time, and 160 members ranging from drivers to co-ordinators and fundraisers.

They held their last fundraiser at Bradford on Avon Sainsbury’s on Saturday after one year of collections and events at the store.

Volunteer Chris Nourse, from just outside of Bath, said: “Everyone works very hard, and over 99 per cent of the money raised goes back into providing a service.”
