An application to build a £1.9 million sixth form centre at St John’s Academy in Marlborough has been given the green light by Wiltshire Council.

Around 20 residents attended the eastern area planning meeting at the Corn Exchange in Devizes tonight where the appliction for the two-storey centre was being discussed.

The main concern of residents and Marlborough Town Council was the provision for parking.

Since the application was first submitted, the school has adjusted its plans to include the provision of 15 new car parking spaces with 15 existing spaces being made available for car share only.

An informative was added to the conditions of the application for St John’s to explore the possibility of temporarily using car parking spaces at Wiltshire Council-owned land at Postern which has space for 20 cars.

If the planning application had not been granted, funding from the Education Funding Agency would have been lost.

The decision was passed unanimously.
