New furniture shop Premier Furniture Warehouse was welcomed by Trowbridge shoppers on May 24 when it opened its doors in part of the former HJ Knee department store.

The firm, which is based in Shaftesbury, Dorset, has taken up the 4,000 sq ft unit opposite The Kings Arms in Castle Street, just two weeks after Trowbridge’s oldest town centre department store closed in Fore Street.

Premier Furniture Warehouse is run by Karl Maggs and Dermot Donaghy, who previously ran Premier Interiors in The Shires Shopping Centre until it closed at the beginning of May.

Mr Donaghy said: “We have been received really well by the people of Trowbridge and the footfall has been high since we opened. All the feedback we have had so far has been really good.”

HJ Knee moved to the former Comet shop at Spitfire Retail Park in March and the company’s director Jonathan Knee said he was pleased to see Premier Furniture Warehouse move in.

He said: “I wish all those involved great success and hope that this new shop will be supported by everyone within the town.”
