Be Safe Out There, Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service is urging road users as it links up with other services across the country for a national week of promoting road safety.

During UK Road Safety Week, organised by the Chief Fire Officers’ Association, fire and rescue services across Britain will be working to get safety messages across to all road users, in particular to pedestrians, young drivers, cyclists and motorcyclists.

Fire and rescue services across Britain will be working to get road safety messages across to all road users, in particular to pedestrians, young drivers, cyclists and motorcyclists.

Tomorrow, firefighters and community safety staff will be supporting a road safety day at Swindon-based vehicle leasing and fleet management company Arval, focusing on safety messages, covering cycling, motorbikes, pedestrians and driving.

And on Wednesday, Westbury firefighters will be supporting a ‘walking bus’ for children at Bitham Brook Primary School in the town.

This is part of a national initiative by the road safety charity Brake to raise awareness of the dangers of traffic and how fun it is to walk, and also collect funds for Brake's work to improve road safety and care for road crash victims.

Ian Hopkins, road safety development manager at Wiltshire FRS, said: “Accidents on the road affect not just the individual – the lives of families can be destroyed by losing a loved one, or changed forever by having to care for a family member with life-changing injuries.

"By supporting this national awareness week, we will hopefully encourage people to think more carefully about their safety on the roads, whether that is as a pedestrian, cyclist or driver.”
