Five brave volunteers are gearing up for some high-adrenaline challenges this weekend to raise much needed funds for young peoples’ charity, Splash’s 25th anniversary year.

PC Stuart Welch, from Calne Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), has been clocking up the miles over the last six months in preparation for his Ride24 challenge – a non-stop, 24-hour, 310-mile cycle ride from London to Land's End.

PC Welch said: "The route looks particularly gruelling; however the barbecue at 81 miles and Cornish pasty at 137 miles will give me something to focus on.

"The triathlon season has started now and I am racing quicker than last year but my longest bike ride to date is 101 miles - 209 miles short of the target so am a little nervous now the date is getting closer.”

Whilst PC Welch is sweating it out on the roads, four other volunteers will be taking to the skies for a tandem skydive from 13,000 feet with the Netheravon Army Parachute Association.

PC Kane Fullbrook-Smith and PCSO Chris Pugh from Melksham NPT and Detective Inspector Nicki Davey, Staff Officer to the Chief Constable, are joining Mel Bradley, Splash fundraiser.

Mel said: “I’m not quite sure how I ended up being the Splash representative at 13,000ft, but we are thrilled to have such enthusiastic support from police volunteers for this extreme fundraising event.”
