A memorial garden for Finlay Connor, at his Pewsey school, has been blessed by the Bishop of Ramsbury.

Finlay, six, died when he was hit by a bus as he walked to Woodborough Primary School with his mother, in March 2011.

The school decided to open a garden in his memory shortly after the tragedy.

The Rt Rev Ed Condry went around the garden and blessed it with representatives of each year group who carried streamers.

He also planted a tree in the garden which includes a path in the shape of Finlay’s initials, a pond and a teaching area.

The service included readings and prayers written by pupils as well as hymns including Finlay’s favourite, Be Bold, Be Strong.

“We are delighted with it,” said headteacher Sarah Brewis.

“We’re just putting the finishing touches in now like wind chimes and bird boxes and bat boxes.

“We’ve got shrubbed areas in blue, which is the school colour, that will hopefully be easy to maintain but should provide colour all year round.

“Now that it is open the children are ready to get stuck in, there are already tadpoles in the pond generating intrigue.”

A number of guests attended the service including Finlay’s dad Greg Connor, representatives of the police and ambulance services, past governors and people involved in the project.

Pupils have planted daffodils and will help the grounds to maintain the garden.

The bishop also blessed the new bus pull-in.

Finlay’s mother Niki Connor has not felt able to go to Woodborough Primary School since the accident but she thanked everyone for their support.

She said: “Unfortunately as much as I would have loved to have been there to see Finlay’s garden, I haven’t been able to go to the school since the accident.

“I really appreciate that Woodborough School have chosen to create a wildlife garden and outdoor learning space to honour Finlay’s memory.”
