Leave your car at home for summer solstice at Stonehenge - English Heritage

This Is Wiltshire: Stonehenge Stonehenge

Summer solstice revellers are being urged to get to Stonehenge using public transport, instead of driving, by English Heritage.

The ancient monument will be open - free of charge - on Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21, for celebrations.

Site manager Kate Davies said: “This is the 15th year that English Heritage has provided free access to the stones and we are looking forward to a peaceful celebration.

"Roads around Stonehenge will be very busy so we are encouraging people to make use of the frequent special bus service running from Salisbury throughout the Friday night and into the next day.”

“We are working very closely with Wiltshire Police, the National Trust, local authorities and agencies plus the druid and pagan community to ensure that access to Stonehenge will once again be a success.

"And, as with every year, we will balance the needs of those attending the solstice with our duty to protect the stone circle and its surrounding monuments.”

Stonehenge will be open from 7pm on Friday, June 20, to 8am on Saturday, June 21.

Access to the stones and the car park is free of charge and subject to conditions of entry’ which are published at http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/stonehenge/summer-solstice/?lang=en
