Trowbridge resident Malcolm Oliver is asking descendants of soldiers killed in the First World War to contact him for a special book of remembrance.

Mr Oliver is tracing descendants and relatives of soldiers whose address at the time was in the historic District Chapel-ry of St John the Evangelist in Frome Road, Trowbridge.

He has increased the catchment area to the present parish boundaries, which extends from Wingfield Road back to Holy Trinity Church, and includes Newtown, Mortimer Street, New Road, Dursley Road, Holbrook Lane and part of Bradley Road.

Any relatives who get in touch will be invited to a service at the church on the centenary of the declaration of war on August 4. The names of these soldiers will also be entered in the St John’s book of remembrance.

Mr Oliver said: “I’ve done a lot of research already, so hopefully people will get in touch. Those names in the book will then be remembered each year during a Sunday service close to the date of their death.”

Call him on 01225 754571.
