A Chippenham man who was said to have been in possession of a stolen catalytic converter has had the charges against him dropped.

Daniel Stacey, 25, had also been accused of going equipped to steal after allegedly being found with a tool kit in Trowbridge.

But after he pleaded not guilty to both charges when he appeared at Swindon Crown Court today, prosecutors offered no evidence.

Judge Douglas Field returned formal not guilty verdicts and ordered his out of pocket expenses to be paid.

Stacey, of Unity Street, Chippenham, had been accused of having the car part and tools, including a jack, in Prospect Place, Trowbridge, on November 21 last year.
